Pre-Setup Requirements
Before starting your study, ensure you have DMS (Detection Management Software) installed on your computer [00:11]. This software is used to configure dosimeter settings and manage your study data.
Step 1: Calibration
Calibration is critical for data accuracy. Follow these steps to calibrate your unit:
-
Prepare the Mic: Unscrew the windscreen from the top of the dosimeter [00:33].
-
Attach Calibrator: Place the calibrator adapter and the calibrator onto the unit [00:36].
-
Set the Level: Turn the calibrator on. When “Cal” appears on the dosimeter screen, press Enter [00:55].
-
Adjust Decibels: The calibrator is set to 114 dB. Use the arrow keys on the dosimeter to match this value, then press Enter to complete calibration [01:10].
-
Reassemble: Turn off the calibrator and reinstall the windscreen [01:29].
Step 2: Positioning the Device
To get the most accurate environmental noise reading, placement is key:
-
Location: Clip the dosimeter onto the user’s shoulder [02:07].
-
Avoid Interference: Position the device before you start recording. Touching the microphone or letting it rub against clothing can create noise spikes that compromise the data [01:46].
