RAECO Rents is a trusted industry leader in confined space monitoring equipment, providing reliable and calibrated gas detection instruments that help ensure worker safety in potentially hazardous environments. Environmental safety professionals, industrial hygienists, and safety managers rely on our confined space monitors to protect workers entering tanks, vessels, manholes, silos, pits, and other enclosed areas with limited access and ventilation.
These sophisticated monitoring devices are essential for detecting oxygen deficiency, combustible gases, and toxic atmospheres that could lead to serious injuries or fatalities. Our equipment helps organizations comply with OSHA regulations (29 CFR 1910.146) for confined space entry and monitor the atmosphere before and during confined space operations.
At RAECO Rents, we understand the critical nature of confined space monitoring, which is why we offer our Instant-On Guarantee, ensuring your equipment arrives ready for immediate deployment without delays. Each monitor comes with calibration certificates that verify accuracy and reliability. We provide 24/7 access to training materials and documentation to ensure proper equipment usage, along with dedicated technical support to address any questions or concerns during your rental period.
Multi-gas monitors are the cornerstone of confined space safety, providing simultaneous detection of multiple hazardous gases in a single portable device. These instruments typically monitor oxygen (O2) levels, combustible gases (LEL), carbon monoxide (CO), and hydrogen sulfide (H2S).
For applications requiring detection of specific gases beyond the standard four gases, specialty monitors offer targeted solutions for particular confined space scenarios.
MultiRAE Pro PGM-6248: Advanced portable detection system with interchangeable sensors for over 190 volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and other toxic gases
RAE Systems ppbRAE 3000: Ultra-sensitive photoionization detector (PID) for VOC detection at parts-per-billion levels, ideal for leak detection and industrial hygiene
Complete solutions that include all necessary equipment for safe confined space entry operations in a convenient package.
MultiRAE Confined Space Kit: Comprehensive kit containing gas monitor, calibration equipment, sampling pump/tubing, and protective case
QRAE3 Confined Space Entry Kit: All-in-one solution with monitor, calibration gas, regulators, and accessories needed for confined space monitoring
RAECO Rents also offers additional accessories to complement your confined space monitoring equipment, including extension hoses, probe kits, calibration gas, tripods, and communication devices. We can provide rental PC laptops with pre-installed software for comprehensive data logging and analysis of your monitoring sessions.
Gas monitoring is critical for confined space entry because these spaces can contain invisible, odorless hazards that can quickly become life-threatening. Atmospheric hazards in confined spaces include oxygen deficiency (below 19.5%) or enrichment (above 23.5%), presence of combustible gases, and toxic contaminants. OSHA requires testing the atmosphere before entry and continuous monitoring during occupancy to protect workers from these potentially fatal conditions.
At minimum, confined spaces should be monitored for four primary hazards: oxygen (O2) levels, combustible gases (LEL), hydrogen sulfide (H2S), and carbon monoxide (CO). Depending on the specific space and industry, additional monitoring may be required for volatile organic compounds (VOCs), sulfur dioxide (SO2), ammonia (NH3), chlorine (Cl2), or other hazardous gases known to be present in the environment.
The selection depends on several factors including the potential hazards in your specific confined space, industry requirements, and regulatory standards. Consider: 1) Which gases need to be detected? 2) Required sensitivity levels, 3) Whether you need diffusion or pump-driven sampling, 4) Data logging requirements, 5) Wireless communication needs, and 6) Environmental conditions. RAECO Rents' technical team can help you determine the most appropriate equipment for your specific application.
Diffusion monitors rely on gas naturally diffusing across the sensors and are suitable when you can place the monitor directly in the area to be tested. Pump-driven monitors actively draw air samples, allowing testing before entry and sampling from various depths within a confined space. For most confined space applications, pump-driven monitors or attachable pump accessories are recommended for pre-entry testing.
OSHA defines acceptable atmospheric conditions for confined space entry as: Oxygen between 19.5% and 23.5%, combustible gases below 10% of the Lower Explosive Limit (LEL), and toxic gases below their respective Permissible Exposure Limits (PELs). For example, H2S levels must be below 10 ppm and CO below 50 ppm. If any of these conditions are not met, the space requires ventilation or appropriate PPE before entry.
Confined space monitors should be calibrated according to manufacturer recommendations, typically at least monthly. However, RAECO Rents ensures all our rental equipment is freshly calibrated before shipment, with calibration certificates provided at request. If possible, daily bump tests should still be performed before each use to verify sensor response and proper alarm function. Our equipment can come with the necessary calibration equipment and instructions, if requested.
Industries with frequent confined space entry operations include: wastewater treatment, construction, oil and gas, chemical manufacturing, agriculture (grain silos), brewing/winemaking, shipbuilding/repair, utilities (manholes, vaults), mining, and pharmaceutical manufacturing. Any industry with tanks, vessels, pits, tunnels, or enclosed spaces with limited access points can benefit from proper confined space monitoring equipment.
RAECO Rents offers flexible rental periods to accommodate your project timeline. Our standard rental periods are daily, weekly, and monthly. For extended projects, we can provide customized rental packages and ensure your equipment remains calibrated throughout the rental period. Emergency rentals with expedited shipping are also available for urgent situations.
